HC Jim Harbaugh offered Colin Kaepernick a coaching job with the Chargers

Head coach Jim Harbaugh of the Los Angeles Chargers is seeking to bring in former NFL star Colin Kaepernick as a staff member in order to reunite with him.

"If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous," Harbaugh recently said, according to Jarrett Bell of USA Today. “He's considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me."

According to Miriam Walker-Khan of Sky Sports, Kaepernick is actively training and hoping for another opportunity to compete in the NFL. Despite not having played since his time with the San Francisco 49ers in the 2016 season, the 36-year-old quarterback remains with the idea of a comeback. During his tenure as the head coach of San Francisco from 2011 to 2014, Harbaugh coached Kaepernick following his selection in the second round of the 2011 draft.

During the Harbaugh and Kaepernick era, the 49ers were successful, with the pair leading the team to two NFC title games and one Super Bowl appearance. Harbaugh expressed his admiration for Kaepernick, calling him one of his favorite players to coach. He also mentioned that he discussed a potential non-playing role with Kaepernick when he first joined the Chargers earlier this year.

"We talked a little bit about it," Harbaugh continued. "He's considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven't reconnected since then."

Kaepernick last played during the 2016 campaign when he began kneeling during the U.S. national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice. He's worked out for multiple teams in recent years - including the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 but couldn't strike a deal.
